Every fault message and indicator light on Taylor soft serve, frozen yogurt, and heat-treatment freezers — the C706, C707, C708, C709, C712, C713, C722, C723 and more — explained in plain language, with the operator fix, when to call service, and the genuine Taylor part that solves it. Active Fault Messages shown on the control display
These appear on the screen the moment a fault is detected. Most clear with a simple reset; thermistor faults need a technician.
The control checked the fault history and found no active fault. The screen returns to blank — nothing is wrong.
FixNone needed. This is the all-clear message.
The beater motor tripped on overload — usually from hardened product in the barrel, dull or broken scraper blades, or a worn drive component straining the motor.
FixPower switch OFF. Wait 5 minutes for the motor to cool. Press the beater reset button firmly, switch ON, and restart in AUTO. If it keeps tripping, the scraper blades, beater, or motor need attention.
Shop scraper blades →High-Pressure Cut-Out. The compressor shut down because refrigerant head pressure climbed too high — most often a dirty condenser, blocked airflow, or a failing condenser fan.
FixPower OFF, wait 5 minutes, then ON and restart in AUTO. Clean the condenser and clear at least 3 in. of airflow on all sides. If it recurs, have the fan and refrigeration checked.
Shop condenser cleaning tools →The hopper temperature probe (thermistor) has failed — the control can no longer read mix temperature in the hopper, so it can't safely hold product.
FixPower switch OFF and call an authorized Taylor service technician. The thermistor must be replaced.
Shop thermistors →The freezing-cylinder (barrel) temperature probe has failed. Without it, the control can't regulate product viscosity or verify safe temperatures.
FixPower switch OFF and call service. The barrel thermistor needs replacement.
Shop thermistors →The compressor ran longer than the 11-minute limit without satisfying the temperature setpoint — typically low refrigerant charge, a refrigeration restriction, or poor heat rejection.
FixVerify airflow and a clean condenser. If it repeats, call service to check the refrigeration system and charge.
A data-integrity (CRC) check failed in the control memory. The machine keeps running in its last state, but stored settings may have reverted to defaults.
FixRe-verify your menu settings (viscosity, clock, heat times). If the fault returns, the control board or memory needs service.

When a hopper or barrel thermistor fault is set, one of these appears at that location to tell the technician how the probe failed.
The probe is shorted — measured resistance is below 1 ohm. The thermistor is defective.
FixReplace the affected hopper or barrel thermistor (service technician).
The probe reads open — resistance above 1 megohm, meaning a broken element or disconnected wiring.
FixCheck the probe connection; replace the thermistor if open.
The probe environment exceeds 200°F (93°C) — the reading is out of range. Seen during heat-treatment if temperatures climb abnormally.
FixPower OFF and call service to check the heater control and probe.
Heat-Treatment Cycle Faults C708 · C709 · C716 · C717 only
Heat-treatment freezers run a daily pasteurization (heat) cycle. These messages log in Lockout History when a cycle can't start or doesn't complete — and can lock the freezer out of AUTO until resolved.
The power switch was OFF when a heat cycle was due, or was switched off mid-cycle, so pasteurization could not run.
FixLeave the machine powered ON overnight so the scheduled heat cycle can complete.
The control was not in AUTO or STANDBY when the heat cycle was scheduled, so the cycle was skipped.
FixLeave the freezer in AUTO or STANDBY at the end of the day.
A Mix Out condition was present when the heat cycle tried to start. The cycle needs mix in the hopper and barrel to run.
FixKeep hoppers filled above the minimum before the scheduled heat time, then re-run the cycle.
More than 24 hours passed since the last successful heat cycle before another was attempted — usually a scheduling or power gap.
FixStart a manual heat cycle and check the Auto Heat Time setting in the Manager's Menu.
The heat phase exceeded its 90-minute limit without reaching pasteurization temperature — often a heater, contactor, or valve issue.
FixThe freezer locks out of AUTO. Call service to check the heat-treatment system.
The cool-down phase exceeded 90 minutes — the machine could not pull the mix back below 41°F in time after heating.
FixCall service to check refrigeration performance, charge, and condenser.
The complete heat-treatment cycle exceeded its 4-hour limit, combining heat and cool phases. The cycle is logged as failed.
FixCall service — usually points to a heating or refrigeration fault.
The machine reached its maximum days between brush cleanings and locked the freezer out until it is disassembled and brush-cleaned.
FixDisassemble, brush clean, and sanitize. Replace worn O-rings and gaskets during reassembly to keep a tight seal.
Shop door gaskets & O-rings →A power failure occurred during the heat cycle, interrupting pasteurization. The cycle is logged as incomplete.
FixRestore power and run a fresh heat cycle. If mix exceeded safe temperature, discard per local health code.
A hard lock. The freezer locked out because a thermistor failed during a heat cycle (or the brush-clean timer elapsed). Screen reads "SERVICE REQ'D — WASH TO BRUSH CLEAN."
FixTouch WASH to enter brush-clean. A thermistor-caused hard lock needs a service technician to clear.
Food-Safety Temperature Lockouts AUTO-mode mix-temperature faults
The control logs these when mix in the hopper (HPR) or barrel/freezing cylinder (BRL) stayed too warm too long. They protect product safety — always follow your local health code on whether mix must be discarded.
Mix in the hopper (HPR) or freezing cylinder (BRL) stayed above 41°F (5°C) for more than 4 hours in AUTO mode.
FixCheck refrigeration and discard mix per local health code. Persistent warm readings point to a refrigeration or thermistor issue.
Mix stayed above 45°F (7°C) for more than 1 hour — a faster-triggering warm-temperature lockout.
FixVerify cooling and discard mix per local health code.
Mix temperature exceeded 59°F (15°C) — the most serious warm-temperature event.
FixDiscard mix per local health code and have refrigeration checked before refilling.
Same warm-temperature lockouts, but flagged "AFTER PF" — the condition followed a power failure, so the control couldn't guarantee safe holding during the outage.
FixInspect product and discard per local health code after any extended outage.

These aren't faults — they're the everyday panel lights and prompts that tell an operator what the machine is doing or needs.
The hopper is running low on mix and should be refilled soon to avoid drawing air into the product.
FixAdd mix to the hopper before it empties.
The hopper is out of mix. The machine pauses freezing to protect itself until mix is restored.
FixRefill the hopper and re-prime. Confirm the feed tube and rubber check ring are seated correctly so mix feeds properly.
Shop feed tubes & check rings →The freezer is in STANDBY — holding mix at a safe temperature without freezing it, used during slow periods or after a heat cycle.
FixTouch AUTO to resume freezing when you're ready to serve.
The heat (pasteurization) cycle is in progress on a heat-treatment freezer. Product cannot be drawn during this time.
FixLet the cycle finish — the machine returns to STANDBY automatically.
A product door is missing or not seated. The control won't run normally until the door is properly in place.
FixReseat the freezer door and tighten the handscrews evenly. Replace a worn door gasket if it won't seal.
