Your Grandfather's Shake Shack
The Siracusano family opened Sawyer Ice Cream Co. on Halloween 2022 at 190 Ulster Avenue in Saugerties, NY — and they built it to feel like somewhere your grandparents used to go for ice cream. The aesthetic is deliberately old-school: walk-up windows, a covered patio with picnic tables, no drive-thru, no indoor seating. You order at the window, find a spot outside, and let the afternoon take care of itself.
The menu earns that comparison. Handcrafted hard ice cream anchors the lineup, alongside soft serve, banana splits, root beer floats, shakes, and malts. It's a complete, uncompromising ice cream stand menu — the kind of thing that used to be everywhere and now feels genuinely rare. In the Mid-Hudson Valley, Sawyer's has become the place people drive to on purpose.
Running that kind of menu at the volume a popular summer destination demands requires serious equipment depth. Sawyer's runs two Taylor C712 twin-twist soft serve machines for soft serve output and two Taylor 428 milkshake units for the shake and malt program — enough capacity to handle peak summer throughput without backing up the window. A Cool Chiller Treat blending system adds specialty blended desserts to the lineup.
The equipment story at Sawyer's also highlights what Taylor Upstate brings beyond a standard equipment sale. The operation runs two Taylor Upstate-modified refrigeration units by Turbo Air — a purpose-built ice cream shop configuration featuring a refrigerated topping bar and organized shelf system mounted over a Turbo Air under-counter refrigerator. Engineered and assembled by Taylor Upstate for the specific demands of a high-volume ice cream service station. A Waring shake spinner and two Lolsberg scoop showers round out the hard ice cream service. Seven pieces of Taylor and Taylor Upstate equipment, all working together under one roof.

Taylor Equipment Running at Sawyer's
A fully outfitted ice cream operation — seven Taylor and Taylor Upstate pieces of equipment, including two custom-modified refrigeration units built specifically for Sawyer's setup.
Two Taylor C712s give Sawyer's the soft serve capacity to run both flavors and twist simultaneously through a busy summer window — no bottlenecks, consistent output from open to close.

Milkshakes • Malts • Frozen beveragesThe Cool Chiller blends soft serve, milkshakes, or smoothies with mix-ins — cookies, candies, nuts, fruits, or coffee — into a chunky, thick, creamy dessert. Foot-controlled with a spoon agitator for consistent results every time.
Cool Chiller blended treats • Mix-in dessertsA Taylor Upstate-designed configuration built specifically for ice cream shop operations — a refrigerated topping bar and shelf system mounted over a Turbo Air under-counter refrigerator. The topping bar keeps cold toppings at service temperature and within arm's reach, the shelf organizes lids, spoons, and sundae supplies, and the under-counter unit keeps backup mix and product cold throughout a full service day. Two of these custom configurations run at Sawyer's, engineered and assembled by Taylor Upstate for the specific demands of a high-volume ice cream service station.
